In 2015, The Wenatchee Rappel Crew hosted a new short-haul program for the Forest Service. It quickly became its own program consisting of 10 firefighters with specialized training in emergency short-haul extraction. Although the two programs share the same roof, there is no cross training between rappel and short-haul. The Wenatchee Short-Haul program is a well trained, top-notch helitack crew capable of short-haul, and is configured to perform functions in support of fire suppression. Short-haul is just an additional capability supporting work in the field. The crew and its helicopter conduct reconnaissance missions, transport crews, drop water (bucket drops) and quickly configure for emergency medical short-haul if needed.
